I am looking for some suggestions for new forest special events.

I may code a couple of the suggestions for GemDust. Your ideas may also appear on other games, if the admins like the ideas.

Fire away!

You know, I'm pretty sure I've seen alot of different pirate monsters out there. I'm having trouble thinking of what the event would look like, but I do think it should involve pirates...

Perhaps ninja pirates, the deadliest of all pirates!

Ack, ninja pirates are way too cliche!

Hmmm... Events... events... Cliches... events... cliche events..

How about a magic bean event?
Example:

A small patheic man approaches you.. He seems a bit on the insane side as he barters with you about your cow, which you clearly don't possess. In the end he forces you to take a sack of beans and scurries away, pulling at thin air.

Should you.
Plant the Beans, Eat the Beans, Keep the beans, Grind them into Dust

You decide to drop a couple of the mysterious beans. Within moments a giant beanstalk springs to life!

Should you Climb it.. where have you heard this before? or Cut the Darn thing Down?

After the hard climb to the top you see a castle in the distance. You take one step forward and WHOOSH you suddenly realize that clouds are indeed made of vapor! Perhaps you should have paid more attention in science class. You lose all but one hitpoint as you crash back down through the beanstalk leaves.

I didnt intend on writing the text for this imaginary module but like any true crazy banana person, I got a bit carried away with this "Suggestion".

...

Okay.. I sat around and asked myself what else I wanted to see as a forest event, who turned and told me what I thought I wanted to hear.

How about a Merry-Go-Round.... of DEATH! What's that I said. So he told me..

You come across a strange looking circular device in the middle of the forest. It is filled with creatures that you have come across in the forest and have ruthlessly slain within the recent past!* Looking quite comical in their current situation of having golden rods pierced through their spines, you decide to deposit five gold and give the machine a whirl. You find the nearest mount and begin to spin around and around.

*Random Events*

1) Suddenly, the fun of the ride seems to have made a turn for the sinister! Lightning flashes from the sky and the creatures seem to have been brought back to life by Ramius himself! (Insert the insane multi-enemy encounter here)

or

2) At the end of the ride you climb off rather dizzy. Looking back, you notice that the creature has vanished and at the same moment memories of the creature come to mind. You've gained some power! (Perhaps a sort of temporary buff named after the creature is gained.)

or

3) The ride spins faster and faster with almost a life of its own! You are thrown from the ride and collide with the previously unseen Carny. Within seconds all of gold on hand is gone, naturally, and you are left with a cheap stuffed animal.

*side note: I can't remember if there is a way a module can track the previously encountered creatures or not, but that would be neat. Pop in say.. the last three ecountered creatures' heads on a few of the mounts on the merry go round? Perhaps the module can read from from the creature list available to the player's level at least?

I really like your ideas, actually :) Especially the second one, I think that goes along with the humorous nature of the game. And don't be afraid to be passionate about your ideas, many of us are here.

(No, there's no hook to retain the last x monsters, but there's nothing stopping a module drawing random monsters from your level... and they're likely to be things you've fought recently).

I am really liking these... particularly the first. The second might have a home in Esoterra ;)

Yay, thank you, thank you very much :) A use for crazy people after all lol

Just thought of another.. which may be annoying.

Tag!

In the forest you stumble upon... (module pulls a name from users currently in the forest / online) Farmboy Talisman! He is looking lost in the deep dark forest with his back turned against you. You decide this would be a good opportunity as any, so you slap him on the back and yell Your're It, no tag backs! and run off laughing with glee.
"Farmboy Talisman Is It!"

This may be a good use for the idea of a post name title feature that was discussed on DP about a month ago. Unless it can be done without a core edit. The temporary name change lasts until the user logs off or next new day / tag someone else perhaps. For that Gauntlet game feel maybe an announcer can pop on during the event: *reads current title* (Farmboy is It!)

I remember the old gauntlet game fondly. I still use the phrase "Green XXX needs food... Badly"

Perhaps being it should make you attract a higher percentage of dangerous monsters as it did in gauntlet.

That's an excellent idea.. I had forgotten what happened when one was It. I just liked saying "The Sorcerer is It!" or whatever it was I had become at the time. The N64 version had some fun tag lines too. "Food Is Good!!" or "I Like Food." Good times! lol I'll put my thinking cap on for some more ideas before we get slapped for veering off topic.

Zegmorien nearly goes into a panic from not finding where notebook ran off to right away, but finds it settled in this new spot.

#4 Tinkerer Too
As you fight your way through the forest you come across an odd looking hut with a myriad of a weird instruments set all around it. Sitting on a log near the front door there is an older gentlemen who seems lost in thought. He notices you and beckons you to come forth. You sit down next to him and can't help but to notice the strange contraption he seems to be working with on his lap.

"Alas the day grows long and I am beat and this item must be complete! At a loss with no success I need new eyes to put it to final rest. I'm tinkerer without a clue, if you could help me here, I shall be indebted to you. Can you tinker too? Oh please, oh please say true?!"

Yes - "Oh yes Oh Yes, I digress. Please look as I put it to test."
No - "Oh my oh no I'm afraid, I shall be shot twice to thrice for this time consuming tirade, by my master that evil knave! "

( Random event items where the Tinkerer names off Dr. Seuss sounding parts or leads the user to turn ordinary words into unique parts "Now hand me the screwlike shrewkite as I plunge ahead with this.. *tinkerer looks to you*.
Knob, Flob, Blob, (Custom Word) "I suppose ____ will do." Followed with a few more items ending with "Now press the button and lets just see what the masterpiece of our mayhem will be!" (Create a resulting buff / gem / gold gift with a news item made up with part names for the title of the invention.)

#5 Court Summons
A squire bursts through the wooded backdrop and says "Excuse me good sir / madam. Might you be $username?" You nod twice and he plants a document into your hand and the person darts back before you can inquire further. You read (Summons filled with legal jargon - calling you as a witness of the murder of a said Green Dragon on the night of etc to the court of etc). Having no choice you realize the case is being heard this very moment nearby and make your way to avoid any possible penalties (allow the user to proceed or ignore and face the consequences :>) You could have some fun here with different circumstances of the dragon's death, having family of the dragon to testify its character and the wrongful nature of its death, fight over its remains / eggs etc. When all is said and done the user's support is taken into consideration for the verdict for or against the last person to kill the dragon as a fine in gold/gem. It could be a great way for the farmies to bite back at those with high dks, granted limitations would be placed as to prevent abuse.

Thank you for providing this thread Lauri, as its freeing up space in my brain for a dark fantasy / science fiction themed lotgd to think about for myself. If you or anyone else does decide to use any of these ideas, I'd be more than happy to provide additional creative elements to assist in their production. Sorry for the rambling length of these posts lol

Zegmorien tosses another into the pot... I'll stop soon.. I swear lol

Burger Joint

Following a path that you believed led to Darkhorse Tavern you discover a shop in a clearcut area of the forest. Next to this shop is a large cave that looks incredibly familiar but you can't quite place it. You shrug, and enter the building.

Ello and welcome to da Burger Joint, where'th food is fresh! I'll take your order if ya please.
Well er.. I'll try the *array of menu items* Please wait as we make it fresh fer ya!
*Maybe have a 15 second delay on the item so there really is a wait, forcing the user to either chat in the commentary or fiddle with something else at this point.

Your food arrives at your table and notice the words on the greasy bag say catch of the day courtesy of (lastpersontodk). You're starving and don't give it much thought as you practically inhale your meal.... (followed by positive/negative buffs)

Teleport (More of a Potion System with triggers found via forest special)

While traveling through the forest a token lying in the foliage to the side catches your eye. You bend down to retrieve it and notice strange markings on the back. You rub the coin between your fingers and a strange voice resonates from inside your head, "Hello new master, utter the words of your destination and I shall bring you there in times of need. I am but a minor djinni and my powers may not work when thou art in great peril. I shall reside in your inventory until my use has expired."

Perhaps allow the user to chose from their list of allowed navs to set the token as the destination permanently or have an admin setting allowing the user to choose predetermined navs (Healer, a shop in town, the inn, etc.). After so many uses the token can vanish and leave a negative buff with intensity determined by how often they used their escape route.

After reviewing these ideas, maybe I'm getting a bit carried away and should continue this in Dragonprime. I'd like to crosspost a few of the more technical ones there if no one has any objections? Also, I won't copy over any here that are currently in development if informed.
