I think the ferryman module has more possible outcomes than any other module. It would be a shame to stop trying it because you had bad luck on the first few tries.

That and the old man have many different outcomes. The old man is my personal favorite special.

The "most possible outcomes" award belongs to the Shady Salesman. As he is a rather infrequently-found special, it would perhaps be fair to say that the forest modules are more likely to throw up unexpected results.

Deimos is fully aware that the number of results in the salesman are ridiculous. He got a kick out of adding every single result he could get away with, as a sort of insider "ridiculously convoluted code" joke. :)

I encounter the shady salesman a lot.. the problem is, I only ever carry money into the inn if I'm planning to get drunk or bribe Cedrik, so more often than not he just waves me over, sees I'm broke, and blows me off. I think I've actually bought things from him twice.

(Hmm.. hope that sentence didn't give too much away about the relevant special..)

Heh. I tried stonehenge the other day (new to LotGD, so I try everything once)...what a disaster! That was actually one of the worst random experiences I've ever had.

Being a sucker, I tried it again to much better results...but not nearly as good as the bad was bad.

Stonehenge is, by far, the most risky special. It does have great rewards though.

I never felt stonehenge more risky than for excample the prince/princess saving special. I do stonehenge even more often than others and feel it is really worth the try

I've had far more success than disaster with Stonehenge. And the successes were worth the risk, for sure.

On the other hand, the princess is one in which I've only had success once or twice, and the rewards were quite small.

That's probably all true...I only tried stonehenge twice, having been new. The first time, it set me back a full two days worth of play. The second time I got a little reward, maybe twice what a lil gnome would give me. I'll probably just have to try it some more.

If you have an outcome where nothing really happens, is that considered a success or a failure?

I love Stonehenge. There was a time when I always did it . Now I have a few rules about when I go. But I never do the Save the Princess. I have had waaaay to many bad outcomes on that one.

But how can you just leave the poor princess there to be trapped in a tower for all eternity? You ish ebil.

I avoid most random encounters like the plague. I stay alive longer that way and have quicker DK rates.

Guess I'm just not much of a risk taker...

I've tried that ferryman, a couple of times with ridicullus results.

Perhaps I should try my luck more often then?

As far as I can tell, everything has a good outcome that balances the bad outcomes. I have had sligtly good experiences with the riverboat, and slightly bad ones, but I haven't yet died or gotten whatever outcome makes the risk of death worth it.

I'm superstitious, so I stay away from the specials if I've been getting creamed by the RNG in general. If I'm down to my last couple of forest fights and I'm not carrying much cash, I'll try them anyway.

Sometimes I wish I could get revenge on some of those NPCs. Perhaps someone could make a level 16 monster on another server: Stonehenge attacks you with Agonizing Death!

i dost know it tends to attack in precisely that fashion whene'er i hath made the mistake of wandering into that infernal circle.

why must such a level 16 monster be created on another server? seems fitting to be on central as much as anywhere.

As mentioned various places elsewhere on these boards, nothing new is being or will be added to Central or the core release anymore.

I've taken to avoiding *most* specials which can kill you.

there are a few I take that can kill you but only in certain conditions, and all the ones that can't I always take.

Similar to Qwyxzl, I will attempt specials at certain times. There are a couple I completely avoid, Stonehenge and Rescue Princess is not one of them.

Stonehenge is well worth the risk.

I agree...

I use to avoid lots of specials, because I don't want to be slowed down in my race to find Her, but I never miss Stonehenge... and the Druid either.

You don't really have a choice on one of those... :D

yeah... druid I skipped once... decided I probably didn't want to do that again.

I was in the habit of trying any new special a few times. Now I only do the non-lethal ones most of the time. Since nothing new is being added to Central any more, I doubt my habits will be changing much from here on in.

In fact, once I achieve my two main goals (200 DKs and a 3-day DK), I may leave altogether - there isn't much point to playing on a non-evolving server...

I like the pincess rescue one, you get to kill lots of inocent individuals
