I have an elf with a +2 for the def mod. My friend made an elf and only got +1.

Why is my mod higher?

You may be on different servers with different settings. Also on Central, the bonus for elf rises at certain levels. For example, the bonus at level 1 is +1 defense, but at level 5 it may be +2 defense.

The addition is a percentage. If I have 30 defense to start with, I get more than +1 bonus if I choose to be an Elf.

Nearest integer I assume though, as I've never seen a racial trait with decimal symbols....
