This is a FANTASY Game
‡‡Director jcp
Please be aware of that this is a FANTASY game. Magic is the rule here, not tech.
This means that battleships, firearms, laser cannons, microwaves, automobiles, spaceships, cell phones, etc. all are inappropriate.
And inappropriate = bannable.
Note: We are aware that there are enemies in the forest that are of the wrong tech level. But they are there to be killed. Hint, hint.
There was a staff discussion about this topic, and we decided that since people couldn't take the implied rule about reality's limits in a medieval setting we would have to make it a policy.
Questions about this? Comments? Please post them in this conversation thread.

Ouch. My character usually fits the fantasy mold, but I think this will really hurt certain people (hint hint the <JEDI> clan  )
Seriously though, I believe it would be nice if we set down a sort of tech. limit, so people would have an idea of what they CAN use.
For instance, 3rd Edition D&D includes gunpowder and firearms, but not beyond an 18th century level and I've seen Falconis "transform" people's semi-automatic or automatic weapons into flintlock guns to reinforce this rule.
MightyE might find it in his interest to perhaps stick a small description of the world of LOTGD, to more accurately let people know what they're getting into, so to speak. Just a thought :)

mightyE sells lightsabers, so jedi dosen't have to worry much...

I have always approached the game in a "Lord of the Rings" / King Arthur fashion. Imaging my Spock-like reaction when I ran into the Jedi's for the first time. So my view broadened somewhat. I then ran into vampires and had my view broadened again.
I haven't run into the 'tech-warrior' stuff discussed yet but perhaps that's because the time zone of my play. Regardless, I think setting parameters is a good idea for no other reason than it provides continuity of gameplay. :)

Wonder why you counted vampires in that? Havent vampires been around longer than....well...everything else mentioned?

Got me! Good point! You're right! I shouldn't have included vampires in the group. (I still, however, am shocked every time I encounter one but perhaps its just the natural fear vampires bring out in me.) :)

obviously those are Litesabers then, 30% less fat then normal sabers.

Or are Light Sabers... and someone forgot the Space :P
But, as for restriction of RP to Fantasy... This is a fantasy RPG, so therefore, play (P) the role (R) of a Fantasy (fantasy) character, in this game (G)

yeah I actually think it would ruin the genre of the game if we had a ton of tech running around Im more of a fantasy magic person so this rule is a pretty simple one

I san only talk for my self, but I approach the LOGD-world along the line of Discworld (Terry Pratchett anyone?). I.e. that you often need reality checks and subtle metajokes abound. And of course, 21st. century items, habits and convensions pop up in a light disguise.
It what makes the game fun, right? :)

It's OK to set a limit for Roleplaying, but I think its far too much to make it a bannable offence.
We all like sometimes to get a bit "offtopic" and after all, why couldn't we use microwaves in a fantasy world? They are a form of energy (of light, really) that has always been there. We learnt to use them with technology, but why not master them with magic skills?

Nope, it was Clarke. Profiles of the Future to be exact.

And how do people figure out what they can and can't roleplay on Central? By following Clarke's second law:
"The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible."
Player: "Yeah, but now I'll attack you with my death laser."
Mod: "Nope, you can't do that." *deletes comment*

And then, when you've eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however illogical, must... wait, that's Holmes.
I think i've confused myself again.
