The Austin American Statesman (Austin, Texas) ran an article on street names today (June 5, 2004). This picture was included, of a car racing on a race track in Hyde Park.

Text on Source page for this picture:

In addition to horse races and bicycle races, early automobile races were held at the Hyde Park racetrack. An unidentified driver poses in The Green Dragon.

The year is not noted, but I would guess this is in the 1920s or 30s. The racetrack is long gone, and houses were built on that site in the 40s.

If you look closely, the old man appears to be holding an ugly stick. He's certainly used it on himself.

So should DK be changed to DSM? Disposing Scrap Metal? I wonder if that has been sold on eBay yet....

"Mint condition Green Dragon. A few dents and scratches, and has been killed more than 700 times, but is still usable. Great for compost."
