View Full Version : Favorite LOGD Class Specialty

I really expected this question to already have been posed, btu I dont' see it any place, so I'll ask it myself:
Which specialty do you prefer to play. Why?
Personally, so far as I can tell it doesn't really make all that much of a difference, since all of them seem more or less equally able to keep you from ever dying. That having been said though, I probably like the magic arts the best for purely aesthetic reasons. I mostly play with thieving arts now though, simply because they make it so easy to get a flawless DK. Without investing any gems through Foilwench...I end up with 6 use points about half of the time, which allows two uses of hidden attack. Eight rounds of the dragon being unable to hit me, and that's usually enough.
Of course, other than hidden attack, I've never really found any of the class skills beyond the first in each class to be very useful. Regeneration and skeleton crew seem almost as effective as the higher levels of magic and dark arts in actual practice, and being able to use them several times generally seems to be more useful than the extra potency of the higher level skills.
What does everyone else think?

I do agree with ye that the higher level DA and MP skills are underbalanced..... the lower ones become too powerful.

backstab is very useful against the dragon. my DKs rarely last over 4 rounds (usually 2 or 3) if I have my skill uses left

I use the Dark Arts these days, and of the 20 odd DKs I've got on DragonCat at least 8-9 of them have been flawless (including each of the last 3).... Between wither soul and a set of skeletons the dragon dosn't take that long at all....
And the skeletons are more interesting then insults in the days leading up to a DK....

I haven't really experimented with the others (I didn't get very far with my thief character), but I like the Mystical Arts. Yes, the first and second levels are the most useful, but I still like it. I need to check out the other specialties later. Next DK probably.

At one point I had characters in all the arts (back when Dragoncat was still new and needed players) and discovered that Dark Arts fits my playing style best, so that's what I use (though mystical arts sounds cooler.)
Dark Arts suits my style well enough.
And I added a poll to the first post just to keep score. :)

There are no good guys arts.
So I will have to say dark arts.

So no one considers the "Insult" skill for Thievery? I believe that is a lot useful to achieve Flawless Victorys in my Godly Case.
As a note, I've a ... *lot* of attacks points for being obsessive with that skill. (the green one don't ask me anymore, he got bored after level 8  )

Thievery, because it gives me more flawless fights, and I end up progressing faster. I don't know about anyone else, but I like using Poison Blade, too.

Never underestimate the power of the dark side :)

Mystical Powers. I still like this one even from way back when you could use Regen to get extra forest fights -- before I nerfed that =D

And rightly so...as your skills become more powerful and advanced, so should your mastery of the more basic skills.

However, not to the point that it isn't worth using the higher skills at all.

I'm a Mystic Arts user - regeneration saves some gold that would otherwise go to the Healer's Hut, and I've found Lightning Aura useful against the Green Dragon.
Of course, one of my other characters used Backstab and got a flawless DK first time out!

I prefer Mystic Arts. Against the Big Green Meany i keep using Earth Fist to beat him down quick & hard :D

I'd have to say thats just you playing style. I love Mystical Powers for pretty much the same reasons as Pwyll.
I do remember one flawless Dk though, it was annoyingly funny. I cast Lightning Aura, then it was three hits later i think, he was at my knees. But that was back with my tame Wyvern(he was cool)
Yeah i'm an attack guy.
I have killed him with lightning aura, stone fist and regen,(each alone). They are all good quality skills, each with thier own bonuses. Sure regen is pretty cool, but you need stone fist in an emergency, not life(ie, against lonestrider)
regen is just a little too slow to get you back up to a safe level of health.

i have now a gyphon, and i too cast lighting auera, the bad thing is that the stupid dragon dies without hitting me, and my gyphon pawns him

I started as a mystical arts user - smacking down the dragon with earth fist and regen combined. This worked...it got the job done.
Then...ahh...then...I discovered the joys of thievery. At first I was a bit wary - unsure of it in the Forest. But when it came ot the Dragon, I discovered the sheer sadistic joy of Backstab.
I've waltzed in with a Black Unicorn, ale, and Backstab, and smacked the Dragon down with over 300 points of smack-down value.
To this point, I'd never go back. I love poison blade far too much in fights, and backstab has given me...at least 10 flawless DKs..
(Note to readers - writing about the game, and talking to your sweetheart on the phone can result in saying to him - 'I love you Backstab' or writing ' I love you dear' when discussing ways to kill the Dragon. Not a wise idea, though a way to get oneself in trouble...quick.)
I chose mystic arts, it is VERY handy in DK battles, for regenerating your characters health!

hmm i never knew thievery is that good karissa, i might change specialites or become a hybrid of mystical arts for regeneration and dark arts for back stab...now thats evil

Poison Blade + Backstab = Dead Dragon. Thievery all the way!

I like to fill my Thievery, then maybe get a point or two of Dark Arts. The Backstab plus some Skeleton Crew is quite nice.

So far I've killed the dragon with Mystic Powers and Thievery, I'm in the middle of trying Dark Arts...
But Thievery gets my vote for a flawless DK (Poison Blade followed by Backstab)

dark arts (voodoo) is my favorite for a new character, but after gaining a bit of attack and defense, i really like thieving skills for the multiplies... oddly, i never use my skills except for the manticore, minotaur, and dragon...
