View Full Version : How did you come up with your character name?
Hammer
01-04-2004, 05:23 PM
I'm just curious to know how everybody came up with their LotGD character's name.
Hammer came about from a partial name of a character I used to play on a MUSH ages ago. I just like the name as well. It sounds powerful, though in the game, I'm not really all that.
Anyone else feel like sharing?
Angul
01-04-2004, 05:53 PM
Mine came from my anime character "angul" that a friend of mine draws for me.

LadyPhoenix
01-04-2004, 09:36 PM
In the days of BBSes, I used to run an abuse survivor's board. The sysop of the system gave me the name "Phoenix" to protect my identity, since I had signed up with my real name. She said I'd already risen from the ashes of my past and so could help heal other survivors. (Tears of the Phoenix have healing properties.) When I created my own BBS, I added "Lady" on front of it, as I'd encountered other people that used "Phoenix." My husband is also a Sir Knight (in the Knights of Columbus), so I am a lady in that sense. I pretty much started using LadyPhoenix (or just Phoenix) everywhere on family friendly sites, with few exceptions.
calandra
01-05-2004, 02:52 AM
My name comes from the series of books "Death Gate Cycle" by Tracy Weiss and Margaret Hickman (or was that Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weiss?) They also wrote another series ..... gee can't think ... the characters were Tanis, Caramon, Raistlin, Tika and was about dragons etc.
Calandra lived in Quindinar and is a tree elf. This world was all land (each book featured a world with different features - all land, water, fire, air, the Nexus, etc)
Zombie
01-05-2004, 05:37 AM
Character name=Zombie
I kept dying a lot and coming back to life, so it seemed appropriate.
Mitsuko
01-05-2004, 09:10 AM
I have another character named Mitsuko and this elven one is based off of her. They look identical, besides their ears and clothes...And attitude, by much. So, yeah. Anime-ish character.
Pwyll
01-05-2004, 11:26 AM
Pwyll was an old Celtic hero who became friends with Arawn, lord of the Underworld, and married Rhiannon. I like the story and the name, so here I am. My character in LOtGD is very different from the Pwyll in the story, though.
It's my initials.
Actually, it's my initials and last name, but I shortened it to be easier for everyone.
Not very creative, but I didn't think I would be playing for such a long time, or in a position of power. So I don't have a cool game name. I'm just the jcp.
Sneakabout
01-05-2004, 01:37 PM
Strangely enough, Sneakabout be the Alias fer me ADND character whose real name be Xanos Baenre... (methinks that ye can guess his race from that...)
After that I just started usin' it everywhere fer convienience... his current incarnation be the most surprising (at least to me...)
Terron
01-05-2004, 03:33 PM
I just came up with the name when I was younger. Nothing special to it.
But my real life name is in the game. I share the same name as one of the Masters you face.
Voratus
01-05-2004, 06:15 PM
<short-version>
I wanted a unique name that would inspire fear in the hearts of my enemies, yet wasn't lame.
So I turned to a latin dictionary.
Voratus - devouring, destruction
Going on four years now (or so) with it.
</short-version>
feahyarmen
01-05-2004, 10:29 PM
In my case, I'm used to meet with people from the four edges of the world (as in LOTGD). Also, I'm a big fan of Tolkien's work, and finally I live very very south in the world.
Mix all, add some quenya vocabulary (and a bit of salt) and it yields "Fëahyarmen", an elvish word that translates to "Spirit of the South".
Voratus - devouring, destruction
Devouring... in spanish it's "devorar", a very common word. Quite similar from the latin root.
SaucyWench
01-06-2004, 08:12 AM
I'm usually known as some derivative of EauSalee (which means Saltwater). Most online gamers know me as Salty or just Sal.
Salty was my first LotGD character name on a local gaming server. MY alternative character was SaucyWench, a name I took in honour of Talk Like A Pirate Day. This character was far more successful, so when I found the central server I kept SaucyWench.
Anyanka
01-06-2004, 05:09 PM
What do you mean? This is my name...
Ok, you got me...Anyanka is a character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The character, Anya, went by Anyanka when she worked as a vengence demon
Oh and Mirkwood is the land in LOTR where Legolas hails from. I believe he may be their prince.
Xecutioner
01-06-2004, 05:23 PM
I like being the Executioner or Berserker in either Roleplaying or Games, so I shortened the name to "X" ecutioner.
demonbox
01-08-2004, 12:25 AM
Auto-biographical book of essays/stories by my favorite author, Ken Kesey (who also wrote One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest). The book gets it's title from philosphical argument against infinite power source, using the anaology of a demon in a box seperated by a door.

I got my name from my parents...i lack any kind of originality... 8)
Well, my nickname was originally Voodoo.
After a few twists and turns, it turned out to be "wudu".
So basically I have always had the same nick.
MrEccentric
01-25-2004, 09:30 PM
Everybody (including myself) allways thought that I was different, some how strange, peculiar, for the lack of a better word, eccentric, so I decide to proudly use it as my nick, and it has being so for about 8 years or so... 8)
whitey
01-27-2004, 02:03 PM
My nick name came from my pale skin. I was going on a school trip, and a soon-to-be friend of mine who didnt know me yet was trying to get my attention, so he called me whitey... the name stuck, and even my teachers and parents call me that now. I used to go by the name of Bohat, because I couldnt think of a name, so I just blindly typed on the keyboard and it came up. Because of my name, people think im VERY pale, but im not really... just enough to warrant the name. And contray to anyones thoughts, it is not meant to be a racist name, so I hope no one takes it that way, if it offends you I'm sorry.

Hrothgar
01-27-2004, 04:40 PM
Hrothgar is the name of the Danish King in the Beowulf sagas.
But actually I didn't know that when I made up the name. Just shows you the crap that gets lost in my head....
dilvish
01-27-2004, 08:53 PM
Dilvish is actually the name of a street in Skara Brae, the town that is the setting for the original Bard's Tale computer game (1987).
Dekion
01-27-2004, 11:01 PM
My Charicter name comes from an old Saturday morning cartoon show (dungeons & Dragons) there was a Cursed Knight that had to face his fears for his own redemption (Pronounced Dek EON) although I have always misspelled stupidly since the begining the spelling stuck as Dek ION) I always liked Tragic heros that had misterious possibly shameful past that eventually chose redemption in the end.
heh alot to pull from a childrens show but hey...

I do remember that show, Dekion, although i never caught the Cavalier's name... I recall the last episode where he destroys the way home to save some fairies...
mysticii
01-29-2004, 12:03 AM
my name came from the legendary Gohan, from DragonBall Z
it was the happiest day of my life when he became SS2 :D
but i decided the name mystic because gohan upgrades to mystic gohan, but due to a few flaws with mystic... Mysticii aries.
Dekion
01-29-2004, 01:20 AM
I do remember that show, Dekion, although i never caught the Cavalier's name... I recall the last episode where he destroys the way home to save some fairies...
heh the guy I was talking about was just in one episode when the "hero's" First Encountered him he was sort of a Skeletal Knight (almost lich like akin to lord Soth in DragonLance) and was set to betray the goodie too shoes but in the end he switch sides and road of a Gryphon. any case I guess it was a memorable charicter from my childhood.
heh btw it looks like all this time I didn't mispell the name afterall hehe
"The Quest of the Skeleton Warrior"
The Circle of Power might help the kids get home as well as free the skeleton warrior Dekion from Venger's curse, but it lies hidden within the deadly Tower of the Celestial Knights that uses one's worst fears against those who dare to enter.
ok yes you can call me a supreme dork for looking that stuff up.

'Tis a pity that they do not repeat such shows on the TV in the UK...
Karissa
01-29-2004, 09:36 AM
Oh and Mirkwood is the land in LOTR where Legolas hails from. I believe he may be their prince.
Aye, Anyanka, he is exactly that. Legolas is the son of Thranduil, the elven king of Mirkwood, formerly known as Greenwood, Forest.
(I wonder if I should start a new topic ferreting out our Tolkien fans...)
At any rate - 'Karissa' didn't really come from anything special. A friend got me hooked me on another server, but it was a silent one, and anyone who knows me knows I'm big on social interaction; the more people and mischief, the happier I am. So I went searching, found this when we were still on SF, twitched my brain a little...and there ya go...Karissa - Vixen of Central.
FanboyElric
01-30-2004, 11:10 AM
I use Fanboy or Elric depending on where I am, and FanboyElric at times when I can't decide...
I've been using Elric as a handle for as long as I can remember and for anyone familiar with the Eternal Champion series by Michael Moorcock and in particular the White Wolf sub-saga that's the Elric that the name came from... It seemed kind of appropriate since Elric is a oxymoron of a charactor, the embodiment of good and a demon lord at the same time - he uses his demonic sword to draw power from the souls of his victims in order to do good... and since I don't make sence to many people ever it seemed an appropriate name to use...
Fanboy has much simpler roots. One of the things I do to get away from my work/academic commitments is to throw myself into a task completely... When a friend of mine commented that I'm like an anime Fanboy in many things that I do, it just kind of stuck around and I started using the name as part of who I am....
I used to play LORD on BBS's in the early 90's. I used Red back then and I kept using it when I found this site. I am a redhead so it really isn't quite that creative.

The history of the name "McDoodeFred"
.
.
.
That is right there is no history. I said to myself "self come up with a silly/goof name for a character that will not play for more then a few days". Well the rest is history so to speak.

I just managed to typo my name when I was filling it in on the form...
Matria
02-12-2004, 12:32 AM
Many years ago I got my boys an account with The Sierra Network (later The Imagination Network). I was going to log in as Mom, but the kids were really not happy about that, so I went with Matria, which sort of sounds motherish and matronly without unduly embarrasing the kids.
FanboyElric
02-12-2004, 01:44 AM
You're right Matria, you're name does sound very Matriarch like... :)
It also sounds like you'd fit right in with the family friendly environment found on the central server which I'm sure you've found.... hope you're enjoying the game!
Gargoyle
02-12-2004, 11:26 AM
Both of my parents are architects and seeing various types of architecture/buildings throughout my life ... I was always facimated with the gargoyles I saw on cathedrals. Not really sure why, but I adopted this as my screen name back in 1996 when I started to play Quake1 online. It has stuck with me and further developed through other online games and the Disney Gargoyles cartoon.
My old website has a bit of perspective on the two names (Gargoyle and Olias) that I use. Olias came from one of my favorite AD&D characters. My old website is here (http://www.wings-of-stone.com/lair) ... you have to enter and click on the "My Story" link.
Sktim
02-15-2004, 11:12 AM
Sktim is my old name from dungeons and dragons. It's been Y-e-a-r-s, like 20 some. He was my halfling fighter thief.
dargh
03-09-2004, 12:13 AM
8) I made up a bunch of characters to experiment race and specialty. All my characters names' started with a "D" for some reason. Easy to remember? Anyway, the one that did the best was a troll by the name of dargh (it sounded troll-ish and evil, so why not?) So I ditched the other characters - daemona (the elf) deamon (the human), and daemeric (the dwarfess) And since I liked being an elf more than a troll (I was a bit too grumpy as a troll - and I like being mischevious!) I became dargh the elf. WOOPIE!
LordWolfen
03-21-2004, 04:27 PM
Simply liked it when I saw it in the movie - I guess since the most admirable and often maligned & feared animal is the wolf.
And the idea of a human level of intelligence in this noble creature would be a fantastic idea.
I have been using my character name in role-play for over 3 years.
Note that the majority of my role-play experience is in Role Play and historic based role-play... NOT d and d or other fantasy genres.
My Middle Ages character (Wolfen) started as a dishonored errant knight and took to one Princes quest against another Realms King. Over time and with a devotion to this Prince he has earned titles over the years. It pays to be on the winning side. lol.

Deimos
03-24-2004, 07:09 AM
Red was taken, so I used Deimos.
I'd named my computer Deimos, and took it from there..
But Deimos came from the second moon of Mars the red planet..
Which, with Phobos, was named for the attendants of the Greek god Aries, Phobos and Deimos, fear and panic.
Artemiss
03-28-2004, 03:47 PM
I've always been fascinated by the greek myths, so I chose the name of a Greek Goddess. My name was meant to be Artemis, like my character, but I think I entered the wrong e-mail address when registering :( so here I'm Artemiss.
I was thinking of the name Aphrodite, but since reading the php source I'm rather glad I didn't use that :P
MightyE
03-30-2004, 04:28 PM
"MightyE" came from being able to get a domain name by the same name some years back. Prior to that, I've gone by Cire (SEEray), The Frog, and Keyboard Cowboy (or Cowboard Keyboy), mostly in online FPS games such as Counter Strike back when I played that in college.

Keyboard Cowboy (or Cowboard Keyboy)
...Isn't that from the movie Hackers? "We are the Keyboard Cowboys. And all those other people out there that have no idea what's going on are the cattle. Moo. Let me help you earn your spurs." Said by the Evil Guy, Plague.

Right movie, but that's not how I remember the quote:
Eugene: We are 'Samurai', the keyboard cowboys.
http://funwavs.com/movie/sounds/hackers/
Of course that part of the movie has a bit of background noise (traffic and such), so most of the manifesto being read by the cop is kind of hard to understand so it's possible I never understood what he said next.

Heh. You have the first half of the quote. I have the second. Put them together. He says all of that.
elinre
04-02-2004, 08:18 AM
have used my name for a long time:
my mother has three sisters (she's the youngest).. in order from oldest they are: ellen, lynda, rene... so i put the names together and got elynre... that was already taken on one of the first boards or IM's i tried, so i put in elinre.... now i use this spelling more often than the original...
so there you go...

Ithilden
04-13-2004, 05:37 PM
Ithilden actually is inspired by JRR Tolken. In the Elvish language of his books, Ithildin (note the i instead of a e) means starmoon. I just took it and changed one letter and got the name Ithilden. From there everyone shortened it to Ithy. hehehe...I also use it as my personal nickname! :)

04-19-2004, 10:13 AM
The first time I went on the internet I when to telenet and found a mud called Alatia. I needed a name and was reading war and peace at the time. As, war was too small for thier name minimum size I chose peace.
I have used some version of peace ever since. Peace where possible but most often peace01. Even used peacepipe in other places. My aol account account is peace0000001 guess peace was popular thier.
Some day I may add my signature quote.
Peace is desirable but, war is inevitible.
KingDubya
04-28-2004, 07:52 PM
My two names derived from completely diff. places. i got KingDubya (http://lotgd.net, http://logd.luekinghost.net) from thinking about George W. Bush. i got tucker (http://logd.luekinghost.net) from a character on "Red Vs. Blue" (http://redvsblue.com).

I got this name from a movie. Cactus Jack Slade is the only living man who defeated the good guy, got the gold and the girl! Yep! That's me... erm... except for the gold :(
I got the avatar from the game "The Day of The Tentacle".

Alan isn't my name. I just like that name. I use it for everything I sign up for, mostly, and if I can't, I just throw on that Tae part for good measure. I'd use my own name, but it takes 15 minutes to pronounce and even then you'd have to make insane sounds, like #/k and !X, like in !Xabbu.
Sholva
05-08-2004, 12:40 PM
I got this name from the TV-series Stargåte SG-1. Shol'va is a person who has betrayed his/her God and that suites me fine since I'm an atheist.
<-- that's my picture :)

Well, that's supposing a lack of existence. But even then, one can betray that which doesn't exist if they think it does. And besides that, one can betray that which one doesn't think exists, and in fact doesn't exists, in much the same way one betrays an existing thing. Especially in this case, he used to believe, then turned on that belief. Much like a child learning the truth about Santa Claus. You betray the idea of Santa.
PhreakWently
05-11-2004, 09:15 PM
well it started with Phreak, an AI in Need for Speed 1 SE that kept beating me (to beat the enemy, you must BE the enemy)
then it got to a game of Neverwinter Nights with a mate of mine a while ago and i needed a first and last name so he told me to choose carefully, you're "refered to by name frequently"
frequently = phreak wently :)

I got the boar part from highschool friends, Cause well, ill eat anything, and while im at it everything. I once ate 15 plates of food at my local chinese restaurante(it was a buffet, at my sisters 18th) and then before i left they made me eat a spoon full of this really potent plum sauce.
(i also once at a large pure syrup sundae from Maccas, no drink or food to wash it down)
Volk9 is a gamin clan we made in highschool, there wasn't 9 members or anthing, we just thjought it sounded cool. We needed a clan cause at LANs there was another clan Medic who slaughtered us individually(and er, possibly even after we united)

This is off topic but I had to respond to the fellow computer scientist, of course "foo" is a great variable, along with "bar", though Zaphod, Bebblebrox, and 42 make great ones as well
Kagura
06-30-2004, 05:25 AM
Kagura is a character from the anime Inuyasha. She was one of my favorite characters and I like the name.
mya is a nickname that my friend called me and it kinda stuck
Valdemort is an old name of my roleplaying character coming back from the early year 2000. He is a king who secretly sneaks out of the castle and has his duplicate run the kingdom while he seeks adventures.
Vode Andreas
07-10-2004, 05:12 AM
My name originated in a story I wrote, the protagonist was simply named V, and from this came two characters with names starting with V. One was a warrior, the other a mage named Vode, the surname came later with another story I wrote... and now I am what I am
Hypatia
07-12-2004, 05:13 PM
Hypatia of Alexandria was the first woman to make a substantial contribution to the development of mathematics.
Hypatia became head of the Platonist school at Alexandria in about 400 AD. There she lectured on mathematics and philosophy, in particular teaching the philosophy of Neoplatonism. Hypatia based her teachings on those of Plotinus, the founder of Neoplatonism, and Iamblichus who was a developer of Neoplatonism around 300 AD.
Being a pagan, she was murdered by Christians who felt threatened by her scholarship, learning, and depth of scientific knowledge.
Since I'm one of those people who likes and can sometimes understand math, I decided to use Hypatia, the first woman mathematian, as my screen name. I've used it off and on in various game for a couple years.
I go by Gold, GOLD34_, G™, G34, GoldenHero34,
When i meet people they are under the impression i am from another time period back when the currency was Gold or G
Mungo-licious
07-23-2004, 06:04 PM
I started out wanting to create a stupid troll character whose intinct was to bash things. Mungo seemed like an appropriate name.
However, as time went on Mungo became an elvish character whose instinct is to bash things. Perhaps a bit of a non-conformist elve.
PurVirgo
07-28-2004, 08:18 PM
I get asked that a lot, as Pur is an alias I use for everything... AIM, MSN, Free Republic, anything that requires a handle. Gosh, I've had this nick for nearly 7 years now!
I started with just Virgo, bacause I are one, but there was inevitably someone else to beat me to it, so I had to get creative...
Virgo is the *pure* sign of the Zodiac, but PureVirgo didn't roll off the tongue... and I adore kitty cats, so I dropped the "e" and simply became PurVirgo. I've never met anyone else with it 8)
As for my alt Gwëndllyne, I have always adored that name over my given name
Syrius
08-12-2004, 04:18 AM
The dictionary states that Syrius (also Sirius) is the brightest star in the night sky. Not long ago I was planning to try and open a night club or evening cafe, and wanted to call it Syrius.
So, when trying to think of a user name, Syrius came to mind!

This was my loyal dog's name. I thought it sounded pretty regal and noble which is what I wanted to portray with this character.
Venski
08-23-2004, 12:47 PM
Well that's what my friends call me. It is supposed to be short of my real name, yet I do not exactly agree. However, there are so many people that know me by that "name" so I decided to keep it.
Actually I have another nick, which I use in IRC (UniBG (http://www.unibg.org)). It is nporpec, which if read in Bulgarian means progress. However, I don't like the look of it in English, so I only use it with Bulgarians. (I admit that I couldn't think of a name for my second character, so it actually is in LotGD, but that's the only place out of Bulgaria that I've used it).

^.^ Crim is awesome. I don't like many other people in there. But oh! I love the SilverKnight in the second season (just .hack//). He's a renegade and helps out the main characters, fighting off the Cerulean Knights (the official CC Corp. replacements of the Crimson Knights). ^.^ He, unfortunately, gets deleted for doing so. *cries for the SilverKnight*

Asylum
09-11-2004, 12:10 PM
My name in LOTGD
Brassy - They changed my name from Cojones, because it's offensive.
I wish to state that it's not offensive, merely mexican. No one who understand what it means would be offended by it. Have a heart.
Asylum - This is from the depths of my ever churning pink, thinking mush. It represents the notion that escapism is my saviour. (oh yeah, who's yo daddy english literature! )
Ragnarok
10-07-2004, 08:30 AM
Sorry for bringing up such an old thread, but I figured since it's not that far down, and the topic is kind of evergreen, that it would be okay.
My character's name is Ultima, from the Final Fantasy series. When I joined Central, Ultima was already taken (:x), so I thought up this name instead.
SapphireShadow
10-21-2004, 08:57 PM
My birthstone's sapphire and I love the dark so put that together and what do you get? SapphireShadow. Plus I thought it sounded cool. :)
Jelly
10-22-2004, 08:01 AM
Both myself and my alt have very interesting origins. Jelly comes from a time I was play fighting with a friend and she elbowed me in one of the more squishy areas of my body and then cried out "Ewww, it feels like Jelly" (the moulded kind like in the picture, which where I come from is called jelly, not jello)
My alt is called Mamardvmark (a mouthful I know), and that comes from a comedy sketch programme we had here ages ago where these two geeky pubescent boys had the following conversation...
DENNIS 1: Hey Dennis
DENNIS 2: Yes Dennis
DENNIS 1: Wouldn't it be funny if we used find and replace on our computers to replace all of the letter 'a' with 'ma'?
DENNIS 2: Yeah, then an article about aardvarks would be about mamardvmarks!
That makes me laugh so much  I hope you all enjoyed it too.

Sailok
11-10-2004, 11:50 PM
*Takes a deep breath*
It started out that I created this superhero in the fourth grade called the Dark Defender. One of his allies was a guy named The Speedster. Then, around sixth grade, I reworked The Speedster's design since he originally looked like a fourty year old rip-off of the Flash. Then, I took the new Speedster's hair style and costume and put them onto an anime character I made named Ultro. Ultro needed a bad guy, so I made a bad guy with his hair over his one eye and was going to have him control the wind. The character's original name was Cyclone, but since that sounded too much like a bad Marvel comics character's name, I rearranged the letters to get Ceyloc. After a little bit of thought, I changed the spelling to Sailok (pronounced Say-Lock just so you know. ^_^), changed his element to fire, made him a good guy, and realized how stupid Ultro was in comparison, so I booted Ultro and drew Sailok repeatedly, improving my drawing style along the way, and ended up creating an awesome (and as of yet unfinished) story to go along with him. Well, there you have it. ^__^

mures
12-17-2004, 09:50 AM
Mures comes from muse, a greek mythological creature that inspires others, and is the base for handle on many places online (muresology, the study of mures). (My friends always say that I inspire people and things, and that I am a natural leader. I have lots of stories involving situations that I should have been either seriously injured or killed, but I wasn't, so my friends tease me about being immortal because I get hurt but I never seem to die. I also am good at (and enjoy) helping others (first aid certified i.e. healing) and I was a counselor on a Crisis Counseling team at my college, so thinking about all of that I tried to think of a creature that would hold such qualities and still have a noble type nature...hence Phoenix! (Plus you just can't deny the coolness of a phoenix...INFERNO was added as a suggestion from a friend, but for a whole different reason.) :D
Oh yeah, and as for Dyre...Phoenix Dyre was a ADnD char I played and it stuck. (Mures became one later, but don't get to play much at all)!

Acemaster
12-27-2004, 04:31 PM
Ace came from poker, and I was trying to tack something on to there to make it sound better, and "master" stuck. Other names I go by on other things: icy, icy one, icymaster, acemage, jabberwocky, Makar, Makaro, eskimo, or crafty eskimo. I don't use crafty eskimo much anymore since I'm not a real eskimo, and occasionally some real Inuit will get mad at me...

01-08-2005, 09:12 AM
I picked up the name Blue in My early days of role playing when a friend of Mine sent Me a picture that I absolutely fell in love with. I created the character to go with the picture as a background character but She stuck and My primary character went off to live Her happily ever after. Unfortunately Blue was already taken so I chose the shade I gave to Her dragon tat.
When I decided I like the game enough to make My second character I went with yet another shade associated with Blue and a name I have used off and on as well ... Sapphire.
SirScroto
01-26-2005, 03:34 PM
My name is the name i used when i started playing LORD way back in 1994. At the time i was into a first person shooter with a friend of mine, the game was called Rise of the Triad. The main boss was named El Oscoro or something like that. While fighting this boss he kept killing us and my friend got angry with him and started calling him El Scroto. I took the name to LORD with the title change to go better with a medeival theme (El -> Sir).

antares
02-07-2005, 12:52 PM
Antares is the name of a bright red star in the Scorpion constellation, and marks the heart. It also means "rival of Ares", that is Mars (yes, the planet, remember it's red too; but also the name of a War God). I quite like this constellation because it is so easy to recognise, and this star is even easier to observe.
The name itself I used for the first time in a game involving fight (hence the meaning of rival of Mars) and kept it for here. I'm very fond of it.
Kaiun
02-07-2005, 06:50 PM
I got mine from a fanfic I wrote (and am still writing, it's far from done) because Kaiun was the name I chose for my main character. Don't remember how I came up with it before that, though. =)

DanaScully
03-27-2005, 04:07 PM
Mine is from the X-files of course. Most of my handles are a variant of my real name, but for LOTGD, that just didn't seem appropriate :)
It amuses me to do such have Scully do such unScully like things.
My alt is Diana Fowley and we are both enjoying killing things and waiting for God Mulder to notice us!
My character's name is pretty much just my own nick. That way, I feel more like it's me playing, that I'm in the game. Or something. I must sound like a retard ^_^

WWWWolf
04-02-2005, 05:33 PM
Okay, this would take a long time to explain, so let's cut to the end. The user name I use in a lot of places is WWWWolf. That became "Weyfour WWWWolf", where Weyfour came from the usual abbreviation of the other name ("W4").
I've sometimes mangled Weyfour to suit other genres. It became Weiforu in Nethack when playing samurai characters. (And probably it might do so again in some more anime-like place, who knows.) And for LotGD, being a medievalish place, I was going for Roman look to get some patina in the name, so it eventually, after two and half seconds of hard thinking and speculation, became Weiforius, nicely pseudo-latin and completely incorrect, but it has the right spirit. :)

Tarquinn
05-31-2005, 01:43 PM
Well... I did start out as a man so I had to choose a male name... Tarquinn, apart from staging a coup d'etat to take over the Roman empire and place himself on the throne (Tarquinius), and having a son (Tarquinius II) who famously raped Lucrece (a Roman noble woman), which is now a famous sonnet by Shakespeare... Tarquinn is also the main character in Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice  , which I was reading....was I very imaginative? nah.
Voila, the history of Quinny.

Sergei
06-14-2005, 11:59 AM
Very simple. I picked several names, started playing them, and Sergei was the most succesful. I dropped the rest (okay, all but one other), added and alternate for Sergei, and the rest is history.
So why Sergei? No real good reason. Guess it sounded funny to have a Russian Dwarf in a land of fantasy. A really stupid reason, right?

Fritz
07-14-2005, 08:59 AM
Let's see. Fritz Stein. Started out as my D&D character in college many years ago. Fritz (German for "Fred") and Stein (German for "Stone") were the closest my friends could get to "Fred Flintstone" in German. The name seemed appropriate for a Dwarven Fighter. As time progressed and I played other games, I always had a Dwarf Fighter named "Fritz." That's when my friends started calling "Fritz the Dwarf." It got to where my new friends new me only as "Fritz." I never realized just how well known I was by my nickname, rather than my given name, until one of my friends was talking to my girlfriend about me. He would keep changing between my given name and my nickname. She finally stopped him and asked who he was taking about (my real name). She then thought "Fritz" was my last name. I don't think she ever got my real name right.
Anyway, that's where "Fritz Stein" came from. I continue to use the name for a screen name 15 years after he was created. To this day, some people I meet in RL only know me as "Fritz."
Headless
07-15-2005, 02:43 PM
My first character had a different name, but he bottomed up, so I started a new one and forgot all about the old guy. Headless was just sort of made up on the spur of the moment, but I likeh it.
Buttercup
08-23-2005, 01:12 AM
My old LORD name was not usable because it contained a title. I dropped the title part, but someone had already taken it.
I was itching to start playing so I just put in Buttercup, from The Princess Bride.
Maybe it's unoriginal but then "Buttercup was never long on imagination."
My name is Pira. I like my name. It's also considered an old-fasioned Thai name that few people my age are called.
FYI 'Pira' means someone who is patient which more or less reflects the person that I am.
Why the capital 'R'? I dunno, it looks nice I guess.

Kylana
11-11-2005, 01:51 PM
A good friend of mine convinced me to play EverQuest once. I sat there staring at the screen, trying to think of a cool name but nothing came. So I went online and looked up unique baby names. My favorite one was Kyla (it is Celic for Lovely/Attractive). I added the "na" for Kylana because it sounded like an elvish name. I now use Kylana for a couple other online games I play and as my name in Morrowind (she is an elf mage).
Alt Characters: EmmaMay--- an alt who went bottom up, The first role I had in a play was a little girl named Emma and I have loved that name since. May is a family name.
Roland--- an alt who went bottom up but may be returning, named after the gunslinger in "The Dark Tower" series by Stephen King.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
It was quite simple for me. I just used the first word that came to my mind when I saw this site with the default skin jade.

X-Kal
02-17-2006, 12:41 AM
Interesting... I could've sworn I posted my nick somewhere in here. I used to go by Excalibur always - this was even before I knew what the internet was. I started playing an exclusively-PvP game, where my brother explained that people with longer and fancier names tended to get attacked more often. I'm not sure if that's really true, but I went with a shorter name anyways. I was going to pick X-Cal at first, but it didn't look good, so I went with X-Kal.
