I don't think I've seen this issue addressed yet. My understanding is that it is acceptable to play multiple characters in the Central server, provided the characters do not interact (place/collect bounties, PvPs, etc).
What about clans? If I have two characters and they join the same clan but continue to observe the standard rules, then that seems fairly harmless.
If the characters are in different clans, however, does that not open up the possibility of conflict of interest with regards to clan operations, especially if one character's sole purpose is to "spy" on the clan?

I don't have a problem with multiple characters in one clan, no. For me, that rule does stand - NO interaction...whatsoever...so long as that rule is scrupulously followed, its all good.
I would, in fact, allow multiple characters in different clans *IF* people could keep them seperate, and not use the knowledge gained. I know of very few people that are capable of this though, so I'm going to have to go with 'multiple characters only in the same clan'. Its just too easy for people to cheat, and we'd have no way of checking on it.

I myself have two characters on the main server, both of which intend to have clans (one already has). I think that there should ba a rule against joining a clan on false premises i.e. to spy or undermine...

That's the thing Sneak - we could make rules about it, but it would have to run off the honour code. And while many players possess said code, some...ahem...keep it shiney and nice by not using it often, or simply don't have one at all.
So while I'd like to say 'Sure, go ahead'...I'd have to see proof positive that we could keep people from cheating. You guys have long since proven if there's any possibility of going around the rules, someone's going to find it and exploit it until JCP or I brings the smack down on y'all. Things which I thought to be intuitive so far as right and wrong went...have turned out to be otherwise, and I'm afraid this'd be one of those occassions.
While I enjoy being up close and personal with my renaming stick, I try not to be on too friendly a terms with my short-term ban stick...yet I see this as making me be buddy-buddy with it before we hammered the rules out...and I know JCP feels the same way. Unless he has some pearls of wisdom about this that he has yet to share with me....
(By the way, that clown *IS* scary-looking...)

Yeah, something should be laid down so no "cheating" can be occured.

A good guideline (I think) is that if you join a clan when you have more than one character, the leaders of that clan should be aware of which characters you play and can hence decide for themselves if they want ye in or not i.e. if they trust ye enough and believe that ye not be a spy. I meself be intending to start another clan with me other character, so there's no possibility of spying...
Hence I'd prefer not to see a rule saying that ye shouldn't have two characters in different clans.

I'm for a "one human being - one clan" rule on this

I've already had to warn a player who offered to set bounties for other players with gold he was about to lose in a DK.
I'm with neXus on this one - or else there is the potiential for <BAD>Joe Bloggs to set bounties for <BSF>JoeBloggs2's clan mates to collect.

didn't JCP tell people to set bounties for their clan fellows at least for the competition?
besides:
"<BAD>Joe Bloggs to set bounties for <BSF>JoeBloggs2's clan mates to collect."
sholdn't those clan tags be the other way? =P
